Selling Your Home During the Holidays

Selling Your Home During the Holidays

We all know that the holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year. There are parties to plan, gifts to buy and trips to book. Selling a home during this season can add another layer of stress to an already hectic time. But there is one big advantage to selling your home during the holidays: The buyers you attract during this busy time of year are more serious about buying a home.

Buyers who take the time to tour homes during the holidays must be truly interested in buying a home. Otherwise, they'd put their house-hunting on hold until after the new year begins.
So if you do want to attract the best kind of buyers, you won't balk at putting your home on the market during the holidays.

But selling a home during this time of year does require some different strategies on your part. If you want a successful holiday selling season, keep some tips in mind.

1) Don't Overdo the Decorations

We all want our homes to look festive during the holidays, but if you're selling your home, be careful not to overdo the garland, tinsel and blinking lights. You want your home to look spacious and airy. With too many decorations, your home will look cluttered instead. And that's not the impression you want to leave with potential buyers.

2) Moderate the Outside Cheer

Selling a home during the holidays comes with an advantage: If you tastefully decorate your home with outdoor lights, your residence will give off a cheerful, inviting glow before buyers even step through the front door. If you pack your front yard with glowing snowmen, shining reindeer and grinning elves, a charming outdoor display can start to cluttered and off-putting.

3) Clear the walkways

When selling a home during this time of year, make sure to keep your front walks clear of snow and ice. And do the same with your front porch. You want buyers to have a clear, safe path to your front door. If buyers slip and fall on your sidewalk, you can bet they won't have the best feelings about your home.

4) Make it Warm and Toasty

If buyers are trudging around in the cold looking at homes, make sure your home is warm and inviting. Make sure the heat is fully on, play soothing music, and fill the house with the smell of fresh homemade holiday treats. When you encourage buyers to stay longer in your home, you give them more time to admire all it has to offer.

5) Record a Video Tour of the Inside

Sometimes the weather during the holidays can keep even serious buyers at home. Record a high-quality video tour of the inside of your home. That way you can impress potential buyers enough for them to brave the weather to come tour your home in person.

Don't let the holidays keep you from putting your home on the market!
